Post High School 10-Year-Plan
When you were 16 years old, what did you want to be?
Is that what you are doing now?
My oldest is entering her junior year.
Because of this, I am hearing a very common question posed to her and her peers:
“What are your future plans? What will you do next?’
I also notice how some people seem almost uncomfortable when they get the response “I am not sure.”
However, if the 16 year old rattles off their 10 year plan, people seem to be more at ease, almost impressed.
But what if we could fast-forward 5 years and look at those that had it all figured out at 16- would we find most of them walking in that plan, or would we see them doing something different, often with tens of thousands of dollars racked up in the pursuit?
The truth is, most of us are not doing what we proclaimed at 16, and even more of us are doing something greater than we could have imagined.
What if, at 16, we didn't expect kids to know the plan, but instead, what if we taught them to embrace the journey of seeking the ONE who has the plan in the palm of His hand, and to trust Him in the winding process.
Goals are great, and we should have them, but I also think that a young adult who knows how to trust the Lord with their future, when they can’t see it, is more admirable than a ten-year-plan.
Think about it: what if knowing your future is not nearly as important as walking faithfully with the one that holds it?
